LOOKED UNDER BLIND
MAN SENT TO GAOL From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Wednesday. Found looking under a window blind of a Frankton house, Benjamin Holmes, a married man, aged 35, was charged at the Hamilton Police Court with being unlawfully on premises in circumstances that did not disclose the commission of or intention to commit a crime. Evidence was given by a young woman that she was in the kitchen with her father when they heard a scratching on the wall. Accused was looking through the window and ran away when the blind was lifted. The father gave chase and found him laying at full length under a hedge, and gave him in charge. Holmes denied that he had been looking through the window. Sergeant Moriarty said accused stated he had five drinks during the evening and he was merely crossing the section to visit his brother, who lived in another road. For accused, Mr. W. J. King said the mere offence of trespass had bepn committed, but this was probably due to the fact that the mam had taken too much to drink. The magistrate adjourned the court to inspect the property, and later imposed a sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment.
