TO PURCHASE GREENLAND
A CANADIAN PROPOSAL The island of Greenland is not for sale. However, this unimportant fact has not deterred certain Canadian journals from presenting, and enthusiastically supporting, proposals for its purchase by Canada. It is doubtful whether their proposals have roused much interest among tlieir Canadian readers; but 1 it is certain that they have caused considerable comment in Denmark. Greenland is Denmark’s only large foreign colony. As far as known, the possibility of selling it has never been discussed by the Danish and Canadian Governments, between whom the most cordial feeling exists. To be sure, the tie that hinds the colony to Denmark is almost entirely sentimental, whereas the incorporation of Greenland in the Dominion would, according to the spokesman of the proposal, be of material advantage to Canada, postered by the Press, Canada’s interest in Greenland may grow.
