CHINCHILLA MEAT
NEW DELICACY FOR COOKS The Auckland Fur Club, in cooperation with the New Zealand Fur Board, has made arrangements for the marketing of Chinchilla rabbit carcases. These will be sold at ninepence a pound, dressed weight, wholesale. It is estimated that an average live Chinchilla weighs 61b, and the removal 31b the Pelt and offal reduces this to
T-lie rabbits are to be skihned by the producer, and sent along wrapped neatly in waterproof papers. The skin, when dried, is worth about 5s to the furriors. A smal lshipment of frozen Chinchillas is being exported from Auckland this month to America, where rabbit-meat is reported to be greatly in favour. It is claimed in Auckland rabbit circles that Chinchilla meat is a delicacy of high nutritive value, ranking slightly higher than spring chicken. It is expected that the scipplies will go from the shops chiefly to hospitals and goodclass hotels and restaurants, until the output is greater.
