PREFERENCE CLAIM REJECTED IN VICTORIAN COURT CLAIM BY WORKERS MELBOURNE, Monday. There was a climax to the dispute between the Waterside Workers’ Federation and the shipowners about tbe employment of free labour in the Arbitration Court today. Mr. Justice Beeby rejected a claim by the federation for preference. He directed attention to the part the local union had played in strikes on the waterfront, and said the court long ago had laid it down that the granting of preference did not guarantee industrial peace. »
