REFUSED RICH FURS
WOMAN BUYS WIRELESS SETS FOR BLIND, INSTEAD Reed. 11.10 a.m. LONDON, Mon. ' CHARMING story, which has captured the imagination of the newspapers, was recorded today. A Gloucester girl, who is betrothed to a wealthy young business man, had the choice of rich furs or sparkling jewels as a present. She declined both, and said she would be happy if every blind man, woman and child in Gloucestershire could be provided with a wireless set. The news was revealed when a young man walked into the National Institute for the Blind and asked the cost of providing and maintaining for ever these sets. The staggered officials worked out the cost and told him it was in the neighbourhood of £IO,OOO. “Very well,” he said. “They shall have it.” He declined to give his name. “It is not my gift, but a present from my future wife,” he said. He then handed over the cheque.
