OWNERS TO BE ASKED TO GIVE DETAILS YEAR AND CAR MILEAGES Press Association WEDDIXGTON, Tuesday. When tlie owners of motor-vehicle* renew llieir licences this year they will ee asked to supply, as far as possible, information regarding the mileages run by their vehicles during the yeai ended t-n April 30. and during the life of the vehicle. This information, which from one aspect may be regarded as the quantitative measure of motor transport activity, is being sought by the Transport Department. It will be used in conjunction with other statistical data in shedding light on the ramifications of motor transport in New Zealand, and will constitute one of the threads out of which an attempt will be made to v; eave what, for want of a better term may be called a road transport balance sheet. In making an announcement to this effect the Minister of Transport, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, states that every effort has been made to confine the information to what will be within the knowledge of every motorist, and that the information is being sought in the manner that will cause the minimum trouble to those furnishing it. “The Government hopes,” said Mr. Veitch. “that the motoring public will realise that the figures which are being sought on a purely voluntary basi's are essential if the transport problem is to be fully understood. I feel sure that motorists will accord the department every assistance possible.
