SUPER LAND-TAX LEVIES
INQUIRY COMMISSION’S WORK £IOO,OOO IN REDUCTIONS Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The work of the commission appointed by the Government to investigate cases of hardship arising out ot the imposition of the super land-tax is expected to be completed by the end of this week. Given an entirely free band by the Government, the commission has now considered and finally disposed of 555 cases, and granted remissions totalling approximately £IOO,OOO. In all cjses its decisions have been accepted by the Government. The commission consists of Mr. W. G. Riddell, chairman, formerly senior magistrate in Wellington, and Messrs. O. G. Clark and A. E. Fowler, both of whom had previously occupied the position of Commissioner of Taxes. Mr. Clark was the nominee of the Government, and Mr. Fowler represented the farming community Tomorrow the commission will make a start with the drafting of its ieport, which, in view of the nature of the order of reference, may be a more or less formal document.
