MORNING COLLISION

SERIOUS INJURIES TO MOTOR-CYCLIST ACCIDENT AT OTAHUHU When a collision occurred between a motor-cycle and a motorcar at Otahuhu this morning, the cyclist, William Kay, aged 21, of Mt. Wellington Highway, received terrible injuries to the head. His upper jaw was fractured, his lower jaw dislocated, and he suffered extensive injuries to the shoulder. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in an unconscious condition. The collision occurred at about 7.1 J), at the junction of Hukonui Road and Great South Road, Otahuhu, when a motor-car driven by Mrs. I. C. Watkins. of Tukiti Road, Otahuhu, emerged from Hukonui Road and met the motor-cycle Kay was driving. Mrs. Watkins did not see the cyclist, who was going in the opposite direction, until a moment before the accident. Her view was obscured by a bend in the road. It is thought that in trying to avoid a collision Kay skidded and struck his head against the wheel of the motor-car. After receiving medical attention from Dr. A. M. Ross, he was conveyed to the Auckland Hospital. His condition is serious. Mr. Kay, who is a carpenter, lives with his grandmother, Mrs. W. Kay.
