SEWER CONSTRUCTION
WORK AT MOUNT EDEN Good progress with the construction of the main trunk combined sewer from -Balmoral Hoad to Kensing ton Avenue over a total distance of 4.070 ft was reported by the engineer. Mr. J. Rogers, at a meeting of vhe Mount Eden Borough Council lasr evening. Practically the whole length had been made by tunnelling through solid rock, which had been very difficult work. It was expected to link with Kensington Avenue in four or five weeks. Subject to certain conditions, the tender of Stevenson and Sons of ■US.9S3 for the construction of the concrete sewer between Kensington Avenue and Peary Hoad, was accepted. About 450yds of footpath in Grange Roaa has been treated with pens-, t rated bitumen as a sample of the work to be carried out under the proposed loan of £ 15.000. The engineer stated he was satistied that the path would last fully 25 years, the maintenance during this period being .about Hd a square yard. Under the loan, it is proposed to renew broken and badlyworn footpaths with the same material. The Balmoral Businessmen’s Association advised that the suggestion that the Balmoral tram signs should have the words "Dominion Road” added had been discussed, and that the retention of the present signs had been decided Spon unanimously. The reduction in street lighting charges of the Auckland ElectricPower Board yesterday will mean a saving of about £3OO a year, said the Mayor. Mr. E. H. Potter. The lighting new streets was considered.
