Dancing at Dixieland

Bright Tunes Played by Popular Band

Saturday evening was ideal for dancing, and consequently Dixieland, the delightful cabaret-by-the-sea, was well attended. A bright selection of dance numbers was played by Mr. Harry Neilson and the Dixieland Band, and was greatly appreciated. AMONG THOSE PRESENT Mrs. K. Miss Ada Sommerville’s frock was of tearose pink taffeta. Miss Bartlett was wearing pretty green georgette with floral lace. Miss Edna Hammill had on a floral taffeta frock of powder blue. Miss M. Clark chose ivory satin, with hand-painted skirt. Miss Nessie Harrop wore a peach pink sprigged taffeta frock. Miss M. Dayes chose a bouffant tulle and satin frock of gentian blue. Miss Cameron was wearing an apple green velvet frock. Miss McKeag had on duchess blue ring velvet. Miss H. Scott's frock was of leaf green chiffon with diamente embroidered girdle. Miss M. Perry wore ivory moire velvet. Miss .Joan Morris had on a black and silver gown of sequin embroidered georgette. Miss Gretta Herron chose a bouffant frock of deep begonia taffeta. Miss F. Hanna was in black faille and georgette. Miss Tudhope had on a pompadour pink chiffon frock. Miss C. March chose larkspur blue georgette embroidered with rhinestones. Miss Zoie Mobberley wore a smart frock of black georgette mounted on pink chiffon. Miss Ellerington chose a flame taffeta frock.

DEVONPORT PARTY

FAREWELL TO HOLIDAY-MAKER DANCING, MUSIC AND GAMES Mr. and Mrs. Birtley, of Tainui Road, Devonport, entertained a number of the friends of Miss Olive Walsh, who left for a holiday trip by the Maunganui, en route England, where she will spend several months. The gathering was a very happy one, and all present joined in wishing Miss Walsh “bon voyage” and a safe return to Devonport. Dancing, music and games were enjoyed by the guests, many of whom wore fancy dress, which added to the gaiety of the evening. Among those present were:—Mr. and Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Bevis, Miss Helen Davis, Mrs. Flanagan, Mr. and Mrs. Irving, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Ivennings, Master and Miss Kennings, Misses McCarthy, Miss E. McCuisli, Mr. and Mrs. Owens, Miss Grace Wash.

FAREWELL SOCIAL

ENJOYABLE OTAHUHU PARTY Mr. and Mrs'. C. F. Lumley, of Avenue Road West, Otahuhu, were host and hostess at their residence recently at a very enjoyable evening, to bid farewell to Mr. J. C. F. Paine, who h§is left for a combined holiday and business tour of the United Kingdom, via the United States. The drawing-room was prettily decorated for the occasion, and the spacious verandah was illuminated with coloured electric lights. Multicoloured streamers decorated the drawing-room, which was used for dancing. Two duets were contributed by Messrs. Lumley and Salter. The health of Mr. Paine was proposed by Mr. Lumley, and that of their host and hostess was proposed by Mr. Salter. A very enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”

FAREWELL PARTY' FOR PLUNKET NURSE

A large number of mothers who had availed themselves of the services of Nurse Cox Smith, 'Plunket nurse fpr the Northcote district, assembled at ‘•lllinois,” the residence of Mrs. A. Boswell, Queen Street, Northcote. on Saturday to wish her bon voyage on her holiday trip to America. Mrs. J. Lethbridge, on behalf of those present, presented the guest with a tortoise-shell backed dressing-table set and a gold-mounted fountain pen and sincerely thanked her for her great interest in the Plunket work at Northcote. After tea had been dispensed* Mrs. Barrington Snow entertained those present with a varied selection of musical items. Before dispersing musical honours were accorded the departing guest. Nurse Cox Smith will be succeeded by Nurse Campbell*
