Athenians Open Their New Season
SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
MUSIC AND DANCING The Athenians opened their 1930 season with a jolly soiree on Saturday evening. This club was noted for the brightness of its fortnightly gatherings last season, and indications are for another successful year. Mr. Wilfred Wright, president, welcomed the guests, and entertaining items were contributed by Miss Audrey Perry, elocutionary items; Miss Laura W alker, songs; Miss Bettina Edwards und Mr. Crawford Xorris, exhibitions of newest ballroom dances; and Mr. Peter Dawson, songs. Music for dancing was supplied by the Kit Kat Dance Band. An effective decorative scheme was cat tied out in rose pink and green, with streamers and coloured light shades. The stage was banked with palms and tubs of bamboo. Airs. W right, who received the members and their friends, wore a gown of black lace, with rose shoulder spray. AMONG THOSE PRESENT. Mi*s. P. O'Connor was gowned in BhinT pink beaded georgette. a- Dawson wore a peach pink crepe cie cnyie gown. , . Trask was wearing a gown of black ring velvet, with draped skirt. Mrs. Eagleton's frock was of rose georgette, chenille embossed. hi., ll !*' P ' K ® an ® wore a long uneven black georgette frock. Mrs. Mu nr o Emanuel was in black georgette and Chantilly lace. Mrs P. Dawson was in a gown of blue satin beaute and silver lace. Ki?^ rs ' Kiss l? wore a frock of moonlight blue georgette. Airs. Hayden was frocked in rose pink georgette and silver lace. Airs Ease 11 wore a gown of black Spanish lace. i MT s * Xewdick’s frock was of flowered chiffon. Mrs. P. Franchi chose shell pink georgette. Mrs. X. Fraser had on a flounced frock of rose pink crepe de soie. Mrs. Williams was wearing a gown of flame chiffon velvet. Airs. W . Wheatcroft wore a bouffant gown of lime-coloured faille. Airs. Richardson had on an embossed floi'al velvet gown. Mrs. Johnson’s gown was of black taffeta with a large hip bow. Mrs. Lincoln chose a pretty leaf-green taffeta frock. Airs. Aliddleton was in a black ring velvet gown. Airs. Fawcett was wearing a pretty gown of cameo pink georgette and lace. Airs. Jackson Kerruish had on larkspur blue ring velvet. Aliss Laura Walker was gowned in citronne coloured chiffon. Aliss P. Rainey wore a charming gown of blue moire velvet. Aliss Blewden was in a bouffant frock of pink taffeta. Aliss ATortenson chose an ivory ring velvet gown. Aliss D. Alarmont was in palest daffodil tinted taffeta. Aliss Kathleen Alarmont chose a pretty floral georgette frock. Aliss V. Jones had on pompadour pink georgette with diamente relief. ATiss D. Alarmont was wearing deep orchid georgette. Aliss Audrey Perry was in a frock of rose pink georgette and gold lace. Aliss K. Ball’s frock was of chartreuse green embossed georgette. Aliss Eileen Keenan wore pale begonia taffeta. Aliss Hazel Rainey had on a black ring velvet gown.
MORNING TEA PARTY
NORTHCOTE BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED Atesdames D. P. O’Leary and L. Righton, of Northcote, were hostesses at a delightful morning tea in the Tudor Tea Rooms in honour of Aliss Xancy Robertson, of Princes Street, Northcote, whose wedding takes place this week. The guest of honour wore a smart tweed costume, with small blue hat. *»Ainong the guests were: Mesdames W. Aluirhead, A. Campbell, Corlett, Smallfield, A. Boswell, W. Robertson, Williams, Stevens. Kidd, F. Maxwell, and the Alisses Gifford, Alinns, Bethell, Edmonds, Wilson, L. Tremain and Robertson.
AT HOME
THAMES OLD GIRLS An enjoyable At Home, given by the Thames Girls’ Club was held in the Druids’ Hall, Newton, last week. Coloured streamers made a very pretty decoration and an excellent programme of dance music was provided by Alorrow’s Orchestra. The committee members present were Mrs. P. McGregor (president), Airs. Hutchinson, Aliss N. Surman (secretary), Aliss J. Aitken (treasurer), Airs. Aitken, Airs. Stubbing, Airs. Andrews, Airs. Cordes, Airs. Hubber, Airs. Clarke, Airs. Davison. Airs. Nicholls, Airs. AlcFherson, Airs. Culpitt, Aliss Al. Porteous and Airs. Wright.
