VAGRANT GIVEN CHANCE Air. Noble assuring the court that there was work for accused to go to in the country, Claude Henry Johansen, aged 23, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon, when he appeared at the Police Court yesterday for sentence on a charge of vagrancy. Johansen, a baker’s* assistant, was* saicl by Detective-Sergeant Kelly to have gone to a house for the evening, but stayed three months. “He says he was looking for work, but I think he would prefer not to find it,” the detective-sergeant added. Counsel’s plea for leniency was supported by the probation officer and Staff-Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army. “H© will live another three months fof nothing if he does not look out,” remarked the magistrate as accused left the dock.
