PAPATOETOE FETE

FUNDS FOR DENTAL CLINIC SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The grounds the Papatoeto* Public School presented an animated appearance yesterday afternoon, when a garden fete, organised by the school committee and teaching staff, was held. The funds are to be devoted to the building and equipping of a dental clinic in connection with the school. Mr. A. TV. Hall, M.P. for Hauraki, in declaring the function open, congratulated tho organising secretaries, Mesrs. TV. J. Hindman and A. G. Grinter. and their helpers, on their splendid efforts in aid of such a worthy object, and expressed the hope that the desired amount would be raised. In addition to a number of stalls, erected in the school grounds, a cooking competition for both children and adults was held, the judge being Mr. TV. Walker. The entrants for the best decorated child's pram and tricycle were judged by Mrs. T. R. Smytheman, The flower show attracted a large number of entries, and some beautiful blooms were on display. Keen interest was evinced in the display of school work by the scholars.

The prizes won by the scholars at the recent carnival held by the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club were presented to the successful competitors. One of the classrooms was arranged as a miniature theatre, and was the means of adding funds to the good cause.

The stallholders were as follow: Afternoon tea. Mesdames J. J. Valentine, TV. J. Hindman, J. Trimble, and Martin; jumble stall, Mr. Mitchell, assisted by senior boys; produce market, Mrs. G. K. Hamilton and assistants; sweet stall, Miss Mitchell; ice cream and soft drink stall, Mrs. C. G. Culpan; plain and fancy bazaar, members of school staff.
