FAREWELL TO MINISTERS

FUNCTION AT ST. JOHN’S Warm tributes to the services of the Rev. A. and Mrs. Mitchell and of the Rev. X. P. Larsen, two Methodist ministers who are retiring after many years’ service, were paid at a farewell social held in the St. John's Church schoolroom, Ponsonby, last evening. The hall was crowded. Sir George Richardson told of Mr. Mitchell’s work as padre during the war. Other speakers hoped that Mr. Mitchell’s health would be restored speedily. He was presented with a cheque from the congregation of St. John’s in recognition of his unfailingservices throughout the Auckland West circuit. Mrs. Mitchell received bouquets from the Ladies’ Guilds of Great North Road and St. John’s Churches. A presentation of books from the Richmond Avenue congregation and of a travelling rug from the Franklin Road Church was made to Mr. Larsen.

A musical programme and refreshments completed the evening .
