AID TO PAPERMAKERS
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GETS BOUNTY JUSTIFIED BY OUTPUT Reed. 1.50 p.m. CANBERRA, Today. It is understood the Federal Government has decided to grant assistance to manufacturers of newsprint in Australia, probably in the form of a bounty of £4 a ton on paper made in the Commonwealth and an extra duty of £1 on imported newsprint. This follows the lines of the undertaking made by the Bruce Ministry that aid be given to local manufacturers conditionally on the output reaching 30,000 tons a year.
