“BUY N.Z.-MADE GOODS”

MISS MELVILLE TO LECTURE The appointment of Miss Ellen Melville as honorary lecturer to the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association was approved at a meeting held yesterday in the new offices in Queen’s Arcade. It was stated that Miss Melville proposes to give a series of talks on the need for buying goods made in the Dominion, at various centres throughout the province as well as in the city itself. ‘‘She will reach the real buyers—the women,” suggested a member, who described the workings of the Housewives’ Association in Sydney. A similar organisation in New Zealand with members pledged to use local productions only, would do much good. The secretary, Mr. J. Findlay, announced that preliminary work had been done in distributing several thousand wall-card copies of the Governor General’s farewell speech among schools, local bodies, and chambers of commerce.
