AMERICA WARNED TO CURE DISTRESS STAGGERING FIGURES United P.A. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.15 a.m. WASHINGTON, Wed. Mr. Greene, of the American Federation of Labour, testifying before a Senate committee, estimated that 3,700,000 workers became unemployed in February, losing £80,000,000 in wages. He declares that tho relief of unemployment in the first quarter of 1930 cost £200,000,000, one worker out of four in industry being idle. He endorsed Senator Wagner’s programme for the expenditure of £30,000.000 in a permanent Federal unemployment relief programme. Witness intimated that the country faced the possibility of a revolution unless the unemployment situation was met.
