GIFT TO POST OFFICE OFFICIAL

Members of the Telegraph Office at Auckland met on Monday for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr. R. M. Doull, senior supervisor Mr Doull is retiring after 40 years’ service in the Post and Telegraph Department Mr Doull joined the department as a mesage boy at Auckland in 1890, and after filling various junior positions was appointed telegraphist in 1896. Having passed several technical examinations, he was given a position as testing officer at the Auckland Telephone Exchange in 1911. In 1917 he was transferred back to the telegraph branch and promoted to supervisor. He was placed in charge of the telegraph and telephone branches at New Plymouth in 1921, and in 1924 was appointed senior supervisor at Dunedin. He received further promotion in 1925. being sent to the Wellington office. A few months later he was transferred to Auckland. When the position of superintendent of the telegraph office was abolished early in 1928, Mr. Doull was placed in charge of the telegraph branch under the Chief Postmaster, and remained in this position until his retirement. On Monday he was the recipient of a. morris chair from members of the staff, Mr. J. J. Kearney, Acting-Chief Postmaster, made the presentation.
