AUSTRALIAN WORKERS HELD IN CANADA LABOUR LEADERS WATCHING Reed. Noon. VANCOUVER, Friday. Eight Australian workers who arrived here on the Aorangi to establish at Ontario a farm implement plant for H. V. Me Cay, were detained by the immigration authorities on the grounds that their mission constitutes a contract of labour. Their detention is being appealed against to the Dominion Government on the grounds that the men should be granted a special privilege, as they are to be employed in creating new Canadian plant. The immigration authorities are informed that another party of 16 is to be sent out. Local Labour leaders are investigating the case and may make adverse representations to Ottaw’a.
