SMALL COUNTRY SHOWS CRITICISED POLO PLAYERS' REQUEST Front Oltr Old t Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. The opinion that the smaller A. an--I*. shows were bleeding the largt shows was, expressed by Mr. W. Vtty' l at the annual meeting of the Waikan. A. and P. Association today. “We used to regard the little country shows as feeders to ours, but no-v their increasing business is makin them our robbers,” he said. “Of course, these shows are often held j n isolated districts, where people cannot come to bigger fixtures.” Other members spoke in support of Mr He well. Opposition was expressed to the ore posal of Mr. T. K. Seddon. that the prize-money in certain classes sioulc bo reduced. The incoming committee was recommended to investigate the finance? and devise ways and means for placing them on a sounder footing. Disappointment that the association was unable to provide grounds for the polo tournament at Clnudeland* was expressed by Mr. W. J. R F'-ank' tin and Mr. W. Ransted. members of tho Matangi Polo Club. They pointed out that the So N ile Cup tournament if held here, would do much to popularise the town and the association Thehad received short shrift from the association, which seemed to have gone out of its way to antagonise the polo players, most of whom were farmers Many had talked about resigning from tho association. Mr. T. Martin said that difficult'would be experienced in preparing the area for polo, and the committee considered the scheme would be more of z. liability than an asset. The discussion then lapsed.
