FACTORY ABLAZE

SEVERELY DAMAGED FIRE IN EDEN TERRACE A tire which broke out shortly afte six o’clock this morning severely dam aged a two-storey furniture factor? at the corner of Xikau and Flowe: Streets. Eden Terrace. The buildini itself, which is owned by Mr. Henr? S ground floor, is almost a total loss Considerable damage was also dom to the workrooms and machinery o the Atlas Furnishing Company ir both top floor and basement. When the City Brigade received the alarm at 6.24 a.m. the flames alread> had a good hold and had spread from the back throughout Mr. Stevenson*? workroom. A double lead of hose was played on the blazing building and the firemen managed to save the frontage inti' Xikau Street. Th« heat of the fire was so intense that a large grindstone was cracked and broken. The body of a light motortruck stored inside the building was badly damaged. Workmen were busy this morning in retrieving tools from the wreckage, but it it thought that, much of the machinery will be useless. The building was insured for £ 400 with the A.C.A.. and the contents of the portion occupied by Mr. Stevenson were covered by a similar amount There was a policy for £3OO on the contents of the Atlas Furnishing Com panv's section, held in the State Fire Office.
