ANNUAL MEETING

ONEHUNGA CITIZENS’ BAND Mr. T. H. Ashe presided at the twenty-seventh annual meeting of the . Onehunga Citizens’ Band, held In the bandroom, Queen Street, Onehunga, last evening. The annual report showed that during the year Mr. A. Leatherby had been appointed bandmaster in place of Mr. A. Bovey, who had resigned. Some 30 public performances had been given, which met with the appreciation of citizens. Previous to the past year the band had had a severe struggle, but owing to the financial assistance received from the carnival committee two years ago the finances were now in a healthy condition. Special thanks were accorded the representatives of the borough council. Messrs. J. Pilkington and F. W. Mountjoy, for .their services. The receipts for the year amounted to £l2B 3s lOd, including the borough council’s annual grant of £SO, and the credit balance brought forward from the previous year of £6l 6s sd. The expenditure was £99 19s lid, leaving a credit balance of £2B 3s lid. The assets, which include £442 for instruments, and £lls for uniforms, total £632 9s lOd, and the liaj bilities £7 15s 6d. I It was agreed that the band will j head the procession of friendly sociej ties to the Foresters’ Theatre on Suni day morning, April 18, when a religious service is to be held. A trophy, ■ presented by Mr. J. Clarkson, for the : best attendance at band meetings was won by Mr. C. Bridge. The election of officers resulted: Patrons, Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., and Mr. E. Morton; president, Mr. T. H. Ashe; deputy-chairman, Mr. H. Rafferty; secretary-treasurer, Mr. P. J. Guppy; auditor, Mr. F. C. Pace: citizens’ committee Messrs. J. E. Green, C. West, T. R. Gilbert. W. Ballard, L. McClintock, F. Campbell, and J. J. Graham; band committee, Messrs. A. Maliman, H. Rafferty, and G. Me Vicar; borough council representatives, Crs. J. Pilkington, F. W. Mountjoy, and H. Campling.
