OPENING SOCIAL OF OPOTIKI BRANCH A considerable number of women gathered at St, John’s Hall, Opotiki, for the opening social of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. The president, Airs. J. T. .Thompson, presided. Enjoyable musical items were provided by Mesdames Murray, Hambly and Skuse. Three very entertaining competitions were won respectively by Airs. Skuse, Aliss Mcllwraith and Airs. Gow Alurray. ' Airs. Vanstone was appointed to represent the Opotiki branch at the annual convention, which will be held at Timaru. DEVONPORT BRANCH The Devonport W.C.T.U. gave the children «n the Cradle Roll a most enjoyable afternoon. On Wednesday each child received a fancy packet of sweets and a handkerchief, and afternoon tea was partaken of. The arrangements l'or the afternoon were in the hands of Airs. Kitchingham, Cradle Roll Superintendent. Alusical and elocutionary items were given by Aliss G. Evans, song. Airs Patterson, recitation, Alisses F. Scott and J. Turner, songs, Aliss G. Malabond, pianoforte solo, Aliss J. Taylor, recitation, Alaster Ralph Wood, recitation.
