MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
From Our Own Correspondent MANUREWA. Today. On receipt of advice from the secretary of tlie Auckland War Memorial Museum at last evening's meeting of the Manurewa Town Board that the board’s contribution toward the maintenance of the museum was £36 0s 2d, Mr. Burnard said it was a very heavy tax on Manurewa, as it was of no advantage to ratepayers here. The chairman remarked that there was no option in the matter. A petition was received from 13 residents of Brown’s Road, asking that the footpath be formed on that part of the road by the open drain. On the proposal of the chairman, the clerk was authorised to advise the petitioners that the whole question of formation of Brown’s Road and footpath would be coi\ dered early in the next financial year. At the request of the Manurewa School Committee it was decided to form and finish the footpath from the memorial monument to the school gates, and to form the footpath from Great South Road to the site of the proposed dental clinic. During a discussion on highway matters, Mr. Fawcett said the bridge over the Takanini Stream was not straight with the road, and was a source of danger to the travelling public. It was a very bad job for new work, and in answer to the chairman said it was in line -with nothing. If a car came straight over the bridge it would end up in Holmes’s fence. Mr. Ferguson said the slab of concrete on the far side of the bridge was lift, from the centre of the road. When he complained to the local body lie was told that be was wrong, and later on he was asked to keep quiet in the matter.
