KAYE DON TRIES OUT FAST RACER NOT PLEASED WITH BEACH United PA.—By Telegraph Copyright NEW YORK, Saturday. A message from Daytona Beach, Florida, says Mr. Kaye Don, the English racing motorist, drove his car, the Silver Bullet, for the first time I under its own power. Two runs over a; rine miles course were not timed, but | it is understood that Mr. Don’s taebo-< meter indicated that a speed of 19S , miles an hour was attained. Although the car held to the course : fairly well it bumped along over. several rough spots. As Mr. Don passed the grandstand he was bouncing in the cockpit, but appeared to be having little difficulty in keeping the machine under control. Upon arriving at the south end of the course Mr. Don brought the car to a stop for a thorough inspection before making the north run. Dr. Eckenstein, it is understood, examined the driver for blood pressure and heart action after the drive. Mr. Don intends :o make a further trial on Monday if the beach conditions are favourable. The existing world’s speed record was established by Sir Henry Segrave on Daytona Beach on March 11, 192 9. He drove one mile (flying start) in 3 5.555pc5., an average of 231.362 miles an hour. NO TEST FOR WEEK t WELLINGTON, Saturday. Messrs. Wakefield and Company received the following cablegram from Mr. Don today:—“Engine of car was started first time today. The beach is in poor shape. I estimate that it will be at least a week before the trial for the record is seriously attempted.”
