EXTENSION NEXT YEAR
TRAMS TO SANDRINGHAM MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL MEETS The extension of the Sandringham tram line is to be undertaken by the Transport Board at the beginning of February next year, and the work will be completed two months later, according to advice received by the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening from the Transport Board. The taking of a poll for a loan for the Avondale extension has been aui thorised by the Local Government j Loans Board, but the vote will not be taken until after the end of the flnan- : cial year. j Permission was granted to the Sunshine Association to hold a street collection on Forget-Me-Not Children's Day on May 30. “We don’t want to blazon war before our youth, and the further we keep the guns from sight, the better,” declared Cr. A. A. Buckley, in proposing that the council refuse the offer of the Auckland City Council to hand over German machine-guns and trench mor- ’ tars, which are now lying in the basement of the Town Hall. The council j endorsed this attitude, j Complaint concerning the bad condition of the tram track on Sandring - | ham Road was made by Cr. M. L. i Kayes, who said that in places the j surface adjoining the rails had sunk i seven inches. Motorists, in turning ! near Eden Park, had torn off their j tyres in some cases. The Mayor announced that repairs would shortly be effected. The reopening to traffic of the section of the Mount Albert Road just bitumenised was discussed, and will be decided after a committee has inspected the state of the route. It was pointed out that the council had determined on the course of compelling the ! Mount Roskill Road Board to recon--1 dition its side of the road. J The town clerk was instructed to ; inquire into the advisability of enter- . ing into a contract with the City Council for Mount Albert’s water supi h.ly. This action will not tie the counI cil in any way. ! Permits for buildings of an aggrej gate value of £ 3,566 were issued durI ing the past three weeks. I The report of the inspector showed ! | there were four cases of scarlet fever j j and one each of diphtheria, tetanus, i j influenza, and pneumonia.
