ADVANCE TAUMARUNUI
PUBLIC TRUST TO OPEN BRANCH From Our Own Correspondent TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. Two further evidences of Taumurunui’s material progress are announced. At the monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last evening the president, Mr. A. S. Laird, stated that the Public Trust Office intends placing a permanent officer in charge of the office at Taumarnui, as from April 1. The change has been brought about by the large increase in business. The Public Trust has pursued this policy of decentralisation throughout the Dominion, with the result that many agencies have been converted into offices controlled by a district manager. Mr. Laird has held the position of agent for the Public Trust here for the past 12 years. Further and definite news with regard to the new post office authorised for the town has been received from the nfember for the district, Mr. F. Langstooe, M.P. This conveys the information from the Hon. G. W. Forbes that tenders for the work will be called in about six weeks’ time. The preparation of plans and specifications is being expedited with that end in view.
