GUILTY OF SOUTHAMPTON GARAGE MURDER TENSE TRIAL ENDS LONDON, Saturday. The trial of William Podmore at Winchester Assizes on the charge of having murdered Vivian Messiter at Southampton ended in a verdict of guilty and he was sentenced to death. The body of Vivian Messiter was found inside a private garage at Southampton. The door was padlocked outside. Podmore was a witness at the inquest concerning the death of Messiter. His statement to the police suggested that he was the last man to see Messiter alive, and he was arrested by Scotland Yard officers as he was leaving Wandsworth Prison on December IS.
