WAR GRAVES OPENED

LAND OWNER INSISTS ON EXHUMATION PLOEGSTEERT INCIDENT Reed. 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Four hundred and eighty bodies of British and Dominion soldiers, including 12S Australians and 35 New Zealanders, have been removed from the war cemetery at Ploegsteert, Belgium, and reinterred half a mile away. The “Sunday Times” says the owner of the original burial place is wishing to rebuild his home, and objected to a cemetery within his grounds as detracting from the amenities of the property. He refused to sell the land. This is the only case out of 462 war cemeteries in Belgium where any difficulty has arisen. The High Commissioners, who are in full knowledge of the regrettable situation, approved the exhumation and reburial, which was accomplished with the utmost care and reverence.
