“SUNNY SIDE UP” Broadway contributed largely to the success of “Sunny Side Up,” original musical comedy co-£eaturing Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, which is being seen and heard on the talking screen at the Plaza Theatre. De Sylva Brown and Henderson, famous song writers, wrote tile show. Seymour Felix, Broadway's favourite dance director, staged the ensembles and song numbers, and three of the principals, Marjorie White, El Brendel and Frank Richardson, are recent Fox Movietone recruits from the Broadway musical comedy stage. The Plaza’s fine programme also includes a number of interesting talkie featurettes. CRYSTAL PALACE, MT. EDEN . “The Last of Mrs. Cheyney,” starring Norma Shearer, is now at the Crystal Palace Theatre, Mount Eden. The story is built around tile adventures of a beautiful London society “Raffles” and a member of the nobility who loves her; even when she robs his home. Lord Hilling, after falling in love with Mrs. Cheyney, discovers that she is a crook. He threatens to expose her, but she anticipates him, society being amazed. However, Mrs. Cheyney holds certain letters, affecting all present at a house, party, and she compromises by accepting a cheque, later tearing this up. Billing then realises that she loves him, and asks her to allow the incident to mark "The Last of Mrs. £.,f yney >” aud the beginning of Lady Hilling, and she agrees. MUNICIPAL CONCERTS The opening concert of the 1930 season will b© presented by the Municipal Band and soloists, with vocal assistance by Miss Kay Christie, in the Town Hall on Saturday evening next, March 8. The programme will be notable for the introduction of new and original compositions. Booking arrangements are advertised.
