“THEY HAD TO SEE PARIS” Every man who dislikes to parade in a dress suit will enjoy seeing Will Rogers in “They Had to See Paris,” Fox Movietone all talking comedy drama. Rogers plays the role of Pike Peters of Oklahoma, whose wife’s social ambitions are several jumps ahead of her husband’s. After their oil well comes in and makes them rich, Mrs. Peters induces Pike to take the family to Paris, where their adventures provide abundant hilarious comedy. “They Had to See Paris” is a riot of fun from start to finish, but; it has its serious and dramatic moments. Supporting Rogers in his first starring vehicle in all-talking pictures are Irene Rich, Marguerite Churchill, Owen Davis, jun., Rex Bell, Ivan Lebedeff, Fifi Dor say, Christiane Yves and Edgar Kennedy.

The Civic’s programme also includes a number of fine musical selections by Fred Scholl at the Civic grand organ, and by Ted Henkel and his stage band, also a colourful stage presentation with dancing, “The Rose Idea.” Warner Baxter, that romantic figure of “In Old Arizona” and other big Fox successes, will be seen and heard in “Romance of Rio Grande,” a Fox Movietone all-talking picture, all next week at the Civic Theatre. Mary Duncan and Antonio Moreno are also featured in this fascinating story of Mexico and of blood relations fighting for fabulous wealth and sweet senorltas.
