PRINCE EDWARD
Two most entertaining talkies are being screened on the same programme at the Prince Edward Theatre this week. They are “The College Coquette,” a breezy tale of youth and sport at a big American college, starring Jobyna Ralston and Willianr Collyer. The second picture is “The Flying Marine,” an exciting aviation story, starring Shirley Mason and Ben Lyon. EMPRESS, NEWTON “The Girl in the Show,” the talking picture which heads the new programme at the Empress Theatre, Newton, from today, is an engrossing tale of the lives of vaudeville players. Bessie Love and the rest of the large cast appear as a troupe of players on tour, and their love affairs and acting and singing turns are all revealed. The Empress Theatre’s programme also includes a full list of short featurettes. VICTORIA, DEVONPORT “Acquitted” is the title of the fine talkie which will head the new programme at the Victoria Theatre, Devonport, this evening. This is an exciting murder story, told from the dock, and recounts thrilling incidents in a way which thrills the audience. The large cast is headed by Margaret Livingston, Lloyd Hughes and Sam Hardy. GREY LYNN CINEMA A war-time wedding in dialogue is one of the features of the talkie “The Shopworn Angel,” starring Gary Cooper and Nancy Carroll, which comes to the Grey Lynn Cinema today. The solemn words of the minister the reply of the groom, Garv Cooper’ and the choked sob of the bride, Nancy Carroll, as she faints, abruptly endin' the ceremony, are heard by the audience.
