CUSTOMS DUTY HIGHER

FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY Customs duty, excise and duty on motor spirit all show an increase for the month of February over the same month of last year. The duty on motor tyres alone is lower. However the total figures for the two months of this year are still considerably in arrears of the total sum collected in January and February of 1927. Following are tile figures for February, those for last year being given in parentheses: Customs dutv £ 155.981 (£179,936); duty on mot6r spirits, £29,143 (£26,445); duty on motor tyres, £1,506 (£4,175); excise on beer, £9,830 (£9,660); total customs duty, £216,630 (£210,556).
