NAPIER FIXTURE THE HANDICAPS Press Association PALMERSTON N., Thursday. Weights for the first, day of the Napier Park autumn meeting on March 7 and S, are: OMARANUI HURDLES Of £150; 12 miles
The distance of the Ruakaka Hurdles at Te Aroha tomorrow will suit Archeen to a nicety, and the rather ordinary field engaged should not bother a horse with his speed. * * * Sir Russell reqtrires some handling. This was pretty evident when he gave his jockey a troublesome ride on both days at Rotorua, the horse fighting for his head all the way, and then unwinding a fine burst at the end. It may be a matter of horsemanship yhether Bir Russell wins or loses the Herries Memorial Cup at Te Aroha tomorrow, and the lad on top fs going to be taxed to the utmost. Nevertheless Sir Russell must read as one of the distinct possibilities In a very even field. * * * Valuation, who races in Merv - ette’s colours made the opposition look very ordinary in a hack event * at the EMerslie summer carnival, and his subsequent runaway victory against Eaglet and company at Takapuna last month, gave promise of more success in the near future. If he is served up in the Wathou Handicap, at Te Aroha, he will be at a- cramped price, and rightly so, too. * * * That Maori Boy is a very fit horse is shown by his more recent efforts, a third and a second at Takapuna, followed up by a winning brace at Rotorua a fortnight ago. He is a fine little gentleman, who is improving all the time. Owner-trainer T. E. Davidson has not collected a worthy ornament for the side-board as yet, but he surely has liope.s. No horse will strip better in the Herries Memorial Cup tomorrow, and if the son of Lycullus shows the tenacity evident in his desperate finishes at Rotorua, he will be in the limelight over thedast furlong.
