TEACHERS’ RETIRING AGE

SCHOOL BOARD DISCUSSION “We should retain the services of our teachers as long as they are valued,” said Professor A. P. W. Thomas, when the question of the compulsory age of retirement of teachers was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board yesterday. A letter had been received from the Otago High School Board asking for an opinion on the subject. Professor Thomas said the age at which people should retire varied and each case should b© considered on its merits. “There should not be any inflexible rule,” he said. It was decided that male members on the teaching staff should retire at 65 and female at 60.
