MG GAME FISHING AT RUSSELL LAUNCH HITS SUNFISH From Our Own Correspondent RUSSELL, Saturday. Mr. Leander McCormick, of Chicago, while fishing from the launch Alma G., landed a swordfish which weighs 236 pounds. Mr. McCormick also had on his line what appeared to be a very large marlin which only showed its tail on occasion during the whole 45 minute.s lie was playing it. Eventually, after a hard struggle, the marlin thew the hook and evaded capture. Besides landing two kingfish, Mr. McCormick also caught two Reremai sharks. The latter species of fish, which is not classed as a sporting fish, have been fairly numerous during the last few days, and other fishermen have had several fights with these monsters. Mr. McCormick saw no fewer than seven marlins near where he was fishing. The launch Rautangi, which belongs to Auckland, was proceeding to the fishing grounds off Cape Brett, when it suddenly rammed a huge sunfish, which must have weighed at least a ton. The impact was very severe and injured the fish so badly that it was unable to submerge and the occupants of the launch watched the huge fish thrashing about the surface for over half an hour. Mi*. L. Stericker, the owner of the Rautangi, considered it advisable to beach his launch and Jiave an examination, but only minor damag was discovered to the shoe under the propel lor. . The Messrs. Schofields who are aboard this launch have already been successful in landing two makos, weighing 288 and 260 pounds respectively.
