ERADICATING RAGWORT
EXPERIMENTS IN PROGRESS USE OF SODIUM CHLORATE Prom Oar Otcn Correspondent ROTORUA, "Wednesday. In reply to urgent letters from the Rotorua County Council and Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., the Minister of Agriculture, the lion. G. W. Forbes, has written to Mr. Clinkard concerning the request for supplies of the Cinnabar moth. The Minister said that supplies were limited, but the application would receive consideration with others. "The control of ragwort by means of this insect is still only in the experimental stages,” continued the Minister, "but if it should be proved that the moth will eradicate ragwort, or even check its spread, every endeavour will be made to introduce it to every part of the country affected. "My department has been actively engaged for the past year in carrying out experiments in other directions with the view of cheaply eradicating ragwort and some very encouraging results have been secured from the use of sodium chlorate, but it is rather too soon to make any definite pronouncement. Publicity will be given at the completion of the present set of experiments.”
