MOTORIST GUILTY
NEGLIGENCE CHARGE IN WANGANUI SEQUEL TO TRAGEDY Press Association WANGANUI, Today. A verdict of guilty was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court at Wanganui yesterday, when George Mason Glenn was charged with negligently driving a motor-car and thereby causing the death of Michael Connelly aDd Alma Joyce Crothers. The case was the outcome of a collision at an intersection in Wanganui on January 25. Glenn estimated his speed at 25 to 30 miles an hour, and he admitted having been previously convicted of exceeding the speed-limit. His Honour, summing up, said the jury had to answer the question: Was it negligence for accused to drive up to the intersection at the pace he admitted doing? It had been said that the other car ran into Glenn’s, but even if this had been the case it would make no difference. The jury, after four hours’ retirement, returned with a verdict of guilty, adding a strong recommendation to mercy. Accused was remanded for sentence.
