NOT TO BE CLOSED

WELLESLEY STREET SCHOOL A request from the committee of Auckland City schools for consideration of the advisability of closing Wellesley Street East School and to transfer the pupils to Beresford and Napier Street Schools, was declined yesterday by the Auckland Education Board. The committee reported that the rollnumbers of all three schools were much below those of last year, but Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the board, thought it would be wrong to remove several hundred children from Wellesley Street East. Notification of the approval of the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, for the erection of a portable school building at Titirangi was received by the board. The old Titirangi School was recently destroyed by fire. Monday, April 14. was the date fixed for the annual meetings of householders to elect school committees.
