OTAMATEA REGATTA

EVENTS ON LAND AND SEA

From Our Oicn Correspondent DARGAVILLE, Sunday

Grey skies and intermittent showers yesterday resulted in seriously affecting the attendance at the annual regatta held at Pahi, under the auspices of the Otamatea Regatta Club. For years past this popular annual attraction has been held under favourable climatic conditions, and had the weather cleared after the exceptional downpour of Thursday evening and Friday, there is no doubt that the attendance would again have been large. It was found necessary to curtail a number of events, including some of the launch races, owing to the conditions prevailing. In the case of the launches it was found that the engines of several refused to act after negotiating in one or two events, due to flooding. Kypara, owned by Mr. A. G. Lowe, and piloted by Mr. Kidd, capsized while taking part in the outboard motor-race event. owing to cylinder trouble. On the land, however, the woodchopping events were particularly’ well patronised. and were watched with keen interest.
