MANGERE RATEPAYERS

M;.\ J. Clark, president of the Man-' gere East Ratepayers’ Association, presided over a large attendance of members at the quarterly meeting held in the Mangere East Public Hall. Among the visitors present were Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, Messrs. S. W- House and S. Rickards, riding members of the council, and a number of members of the Mangere Bridge Ratepayers’ Association.

The chairman said that the association had been successful in obtaining the support of the county council in asking for better postal facilities, and had also been instrumental in placing a petition before the council objecting to the erection of a block of flats on a site near the station. An Application had been made to the council, asking that provision be made for a rubbish dump, and as a result a site on the Otahuliu Trotting Club’s property had been inspected. The chairman of the club had given the deputation a sympathetic hearing and promised that the question would be submitted to the Auckland Harbour Board.

The Federated Women’s Association, of Auckland, had asked for the association’s support in getting workers’ weekly train tickets extended to passengers travelling by trains arriving at their destination by 9 a.m. A petition signed by 157 residents had been obtained. * The president and secretary, in conjunction with Messrs. S. W. House and S. Rickards, were appointed to inspect the triangle at the junction of Massey Road and Grey Avenue, with the idea of beautifying this area.

Messrs. House and Rickards reported that they had interviewed the Hon. J. •B. Donald last Saturday, when a satisfactory reply was received to their request for a post office and stampvending machine.

Mr. Hutchinson, engineer to the Auckland Electric Power Board, gave an interesting address on electricity and its advantages, and also answered a number of questions.
