ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
TURNED ON THE GAS JET
From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON. Wednesday. An effort to end his life, made by William Bowler Tissiman, at Frankton yesterday morning-, proved unsuccessful. He appeared at the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, and pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to commit suicide. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said aecus€.*d was a married man separated from his wife. At his room in a boardinghouse at Frankton yesterday, Tissiman covered his head with a sheet placed over a gas jet, shut off all avenues of escape, and turned the gas full on with the intention of taking his life. Tissiman was discovered before it was too late and taken to the hospital. He had nearly recovered. Accused was willing to be committed to a mental hospital for treatment. In reply to the magistrate, accused said he was prepared to become a voluntary patient at a mental hospital to undergo medical treatment with the object of restoring his nerves to normal. Accused was convicted and discharged without penalty.
