He was at one time private secretary to the late Joseph Chamberlain. From this estate. £650.000 fails to the Exchequer in death duties. MONEY FROM LIQUOR Reed. Noon. LONDON. Tuesday. Lord Forteviot, who died on November 23, left an estate valued at £4,405,977, on which the death duties amount to £1,722,755. Lord Forteviot, formerly Sir John Dewar, was chairman of the distilling firm of John Dewar and Sons. During his lifetime he made munificent bequests to social institutions, notably ih Perth, his native town, and he was particularly interested in housing reform.
