HUNDREDS MURDERED
GARRISONS OVERWHELMED BY COMMUNISTS
POPULACE TERRORISED Reed. 9.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, Tuesday. A Communist uprising -which is terrorising the populace, is reported to have occurred in the Hupeh Province. Government garrisons were outnumbered, and scores of officials, including magistrates, were murdered. Hundreds of wealthy merchants were robbed and slaughtered. The district is the same in which the missionary outrages recently occurred. Bandits wear masks and believe themselves Heaven-inspired.
