HUGE NOTE FRAUDS

CHINESE COUNTERFEIT GANG CAUGHT

FLOOD OF SPURIOUS MONEY United I*. A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.10 a.m. SHANGHAI, Tues. The largest counterfeiting plant operated in China has been located in the Chinese territory three miles from the settlement by municipal detectives. A three months’ search has resulted in the arrest of 10 Chinese and two Russians and in the seizure of an elaborate plant and 100,000 dollars in completed notes of the Government Bank of China and perfect copper plates, in addition to unfinished notes amounting to millions cf dollars.

The plant was discovered in a cellar beneath a deserted farmhouse, entrance to which was obtained through a tunnel connected with the house 400yds away. A member of the gang confessed that the plant had been in operation for two years manufacturing notes of many Chinese banks, which were distributed to interior agents, wiih ramifications throughout China. It is stated that the plans were made by Russians, who are believed to be Soviet agents specially operating for the purpose of flooding the country with spurious notes to discredit the Government Bank.
