HANDICAP MAN WINS IN 1,000 YARDS VICTORY IN QUARTER-MILE Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. Dr. Otto Peltzer ran in two races at the sports meeting at Lancaster Park this evening. The track was in perfect order, but a stiff north-east breeze, which met runners down the back straight, made record breaking difficult, if not impossible. The 1,500 spectators gave Dr. Peltzer a flattering reception.

A I,oooyds invitation handicap had been arranged to give Dr. Peltzer the opportunity to attempt to break the world record. 2m 11 l-ss, made by C Dllis (Britain! at Stamford Bridge last year. Dr. Peltzer conceded handicaps up to 35yds to local runners in tho race. These handicap men set a fast pace in the first quarter, and Dr. Peltzer made no impression on them. Xot until the last 200yd:s did he reach the field. He failed to catch U. L. IsTicoll (handicap 25yds), who won by 9yds in 2m 16s. Peltzer’s time was 2m IS l-ss.

The German runner won the quarter-mile invitation handicap in 51 2-ss, beating A. Bullivant (handicap 10yds) on (he tape by half a varc. D. W. Bishop (handicap Byds) was third, a yard farther back.
