BRITISH BY-ELECTION RESULT REPLACING LORD PONSONBY LONDON, Friday. The result of the by-election in the Brightside division of Sheffield, which was necessitated by the elevation to the peerage of the sitting Labour member, Mr. Arthur Ponsonby, resulted as follow: Mr. F. Marshall (Labour) .. 11,543 Mr. Hamar Russell (Con.) .. 8,612 Mr. W. A. Lambert (Liberal) . 5,650 Mr. J. Murphy (Communist) . . 1,084 Labour’s majority 2,931 Mr. Murphy’s deposit will be forfeited. At the general election, the polling was: Mr. A. Ponsonby, 20,277; Commander R. I. Money (Conservative), 9,828; Mr. W. A. Lambert, 6,612. The Labour majority was 10,449.
