MEXICO UPSET
POLITICAL UNREST FOLLOWS ATTACK ON PRESIDENT NEW RULERS’ DICTATES MEXICO CITY, Thursday. Further arrests have been made in connection with the attack on the new President, Senor Rubio. The populace is exhibiting excitement and uneasiness, and all the inauguration ceremonies have been postponed. However, the President is recovering quickly from his shot-wound. Senor Vasconcellos, who was defeated at the Presidential election, in a statement says: “I feel sorry for the young man Flores, who fired the shot. He has sacrificed himself. I do not remember him personally. Undoubtedly he was exasperated to see the country dominated by brute force for the last six years. RULED BY IRON HAND
“The former President, General Calles, had been using the iron hand, with the result of constant agitation. Of course, it is sad to think of Senor Rubio being injured, because he is nothing but the tool of Calles. I hope for peace in Mexico, but let us hope for justice first.” ■ The late President, Senor Portes Gil, said: “As I take charge of the Ministry of the Interior I have to report a savage and brutal attack, which reveals that there exists a morbid element, who will leave nothing undone, no matter how reprehensible, to carry the country toward ruin and chaos. I say that the Government still has firm intentions of seeing that the principles of the Mexican social movement ars complied with. "It will face any situation arising, and know how to punish with all its energy all criminal attempts of this nature. Therefore, the nation may rest tranquil.”
