STRAND
“THE LADY LIES”
Walter Huston and Claudette Colbert, two well-known New York stage players, appear in “The Lady Lies,” the main feature of the programme which is pleasing audiences at the Strand Theatre. The story deals with a serious social problem, presenting the case of a wealthy widower who desires to marry again. The girl he loves is not of his own social class, and strenuous opposition to the match is made by his two children. Realising the extent to which their happiness depends upon his action, the widower feels compelled to await the children’s permision before marrying, and for a time family relations are considerably strained. Eventually, however, a conciliatory arrangement is reached, and the picture comes to a happy ending. Among the excellent items on the big supporting programme are “The 1812 Overture,” by Hr. Hugo Reisinfeld’s symphony orchestra of 75 players; a sound cartoon, a sound gazette and views of the Mangere Airdrome.
