FOR BUS TERMINUS
TRANSPORT BOARD WANTS OLD DOCK SITE HARBOUR BOARD CRITICISED The Harbour Board is prepared to sell part of the old dock site to the Transport Board for a bus terminus. Members of the Transport Board hinted this morning that the Harbour Board, being wealthy, should give the land or sell it on give-away terms. The Harbour Board’s reply followed a deputation from the City Council and the Transport Board in November requesting that the northern portion of the dock site be reserved as a bus area. The Harbour Board says it is willing to sell at the present value of the site, less 25 per cent, allowance, conditional on a road frontage being provided to the remainder of the block. In protesting against the terms required by the vendor board, Mr. E. J. Phelan, said that authority should be prepared to make some sacrifice. It was the richest harbour board in the Southern Hemisphere. Mr. M. J. Coyle: The board has treated the City Council reasonably. Mr. Phelan; Tell us one thing. Mr. Coyle: You’ll hear in due course. Mr. E. H. Potter said the subject should be taken up by the City Council and the Transport Board conjointly.
